SOMETHING I READ, ATE AND CREATED #14

i spotted this over at in the moment {love her blog}
i changed up the last line since we have a candy store in town and not a toy store. i am going to print this off . . .  it's going to be our summer motto!

last night henry and i made frozen banana bites! YUMMY with a capital Y!
as i was shoving them into my mouth i was telling myself that there could be worse things . . . right?

we didn't follow a recipe but there are a ton of variations on pinterest. in case you were wondering-ours were not this pretty!  i am thinking of starting a board with the title "things i have tried from pinterest that look like ass!"

: : : : : : : : : : :

a couple weeks ago one of my most favorite friends in the whole wide world {who also is one of the gals behind sundar imports} came up with the best idea . . .
 a co-ed kickball game! how fun is this going to be?

One Mint Plant at Time

this past weekend i planted our small veggie garden . . . cucumbers, basil, red peppers, dill, carrots, cabbage and MINT! what do i do with mint? i make bootleg's . . . one of my very favorite summer cocktails!

i am introducing the bootleg to several friends this week . . . one mint plant at a time! you can too!

you will need:
a mint plant
paper for printing the recipe
some sort of decorative paper for the wrap {i used pages from my vintage dictionary}
ribbon or twine {i used bakers twine}
wire {i used wire hangers- my mind goes right to joan crawford}
the recipe {printable here}

if mint's not your deal share your favorite recipe for basil or dill or cucumbers or spinach . . . the list is endless!

this kid . . .

this kid (the boy with no shoes or a helmet) and i have had our struggles this school year, so it's safe to say that we are both counting down the days until summer!

:  :  :  :  :  :  :

we were driving home from the golf course last week and henry asked me if it was illegal for me to be on my phone . . .

ME: yes, in some states you can get into trouble, but not in our state.  different states have different rules. like if you are gay you can't get married in our state but you could in iowa . . .

H-BOMB: if you're gay you can't get married? weird! (insert long pause) that's really sad.

i must be doing something right. that small statement made up for all the spelling words that didn't get spelled right this year. at the end of the day, this is the kid i am going to be proud of! so he's doesn't love school and can't spell to save his own hind end, but that's why we have spell check, right?

SOMETHING I READ, ATE AND CREATED #13

i haven't seen anything this week that really spoke to me and i have a stack of books that are on my "to read" list, BUT i did hit the movie theater last week. does that count? this movie was just ok. i wouldn't rush out to your nearest movie theater. and if you are pregnant i wouldn't read this book either . . . unless you want to spend the next 9 months thinking something is terribly wrong with you and your unborn baby!

_____________________________________________________

i ate too much of this last week.
simple recipe and always a hit.
 notice i didn't say it was healthy!

country vs. town

i grew up out in the country. dead end road. on a river. in the woods. {and no air conditioning} i didn't love it. there were no other kids around and it was SO BORING! so i decided when i was a grown up i was going to live in town {and have air conditioning}!

my 10 year old doesn't love being in town and would give his right arm to live on a river in the woods! he makes the best of it though . . . here's his latest "i think i live in the country" project . . . a creek running along our property line . . . with bridges, tunnels, islands and boats.

this is the stuff he lives for. this is what gets him through a day at school . . . it's his happy place! next up; a treehouse using the only 6 trees in our yard!
